My current 5 foundations: The quest for a perfect foundation

Drugstore Foundation

Prior to last year, I would have considered myself a drugstore girl. The prices were more attractive, to me, and the availability was vast. If I had a last minute makeup emergency, I could walk into a 24 hour Walgreens or CVS to solve the problem. Within the past few years, I’ve noticed an increase in pricing of drugstore makeup.

The prices aren’t the same as high-end products but…close enough to push me to look elsewhere. After trying various higher-end makeup brands, I settled on Clinique’s Beyond Perfection foundation. This foundation has made its way to the top of my vanity for my daily “No Makeup Days” makeup routine.

I’m pleased with the foundation’s cool undertone. It provides an even skin tone and control the oil from my combination skin. Although I am content with this foundation, I’m still on the search for the perfect foundation.

Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation review
Clinique Beyond Perfecting 24 Golden

Pros:
Evens out my skin tone
Provides a decent amount of coverage without a cakey finish.
More of a natural finish, neither matte or dewy
The doe foot applicator could cause contamination.

Cons:
Does not provide enough coverage to be a concealer, for me
Blemishes and hyperpigmentation still peek thru
The doe foot applicator aids in controlling the amount of foundation being used Needs
Lack of darker shades, undertones are varied

  3. These foundations all seem to have its prons and cons- and you describe them really well. The last foundation I bought I haven't tried out yet, so thanks for reminding me to give it a try. I tend not to buy a lot of make up, and when I do buy it's usually drugstores but sometimes I treat myself with something a bit more pricey. You are right about drugstore cosmetics going up in price, so it makes sense to look for alternatives.

  4. I haven't used any of these foundations. I've been wanting a drugstore one though for 'everyday' makeup looks, but haven't known where to start, so this post really helps. My fave foundation at the moment is Nars Natural Radiant Longwear foundation, but I only wear it when I'm going out.

  8. I used to consider myself a drugstore girl too, but I'm having trouble with foundation lately. It all seems to settle into my wrinkles by the end of the day.

  11. I've been using Fenty Beauty and I love it, it's very natural and light. It does not have full full coverage though but I'm okay with it. I've also used the Fit Me Matt +Poreless and I think it's okay, especially for the price point. And I love the shade range. It didn't live up to the hype for me but it wasn't all that bad either.

PS: I hear the Huda Beauty foundation is really good if you're looking for full coverage :)

  12. Oh wow, I can relate to needing to search high and low for your perfect foundation! It can be so tricky to determine the best shade, particularly with lighting/sun conditions changing so regularly!
